Originally trained as an industrial designer, Alex is currently the project manager of the Tyne Puppet Barge which draws on his experience as a boat builder, musician and city farm manager. Married to puppeteer Alison McGowan, Alex moved to Newcastle in 2002, sailing their yacht up from London to their new home on the Tyne.
